For some establishments, there’s nothing more important than the name. In fact, some restaurants would scoff at the idea of changing its name at all. How would anyone remember them?! But the case is practically the opposite for one Atlanta restaurant.
When you think of “themed” dining, visions of kitschy furnishings quickly come to mind. Some restaurants try to construct a themed ambiance but oftentimes the decor is more of a distraction, creating more questions than answers, and thrusting patrons into wondering what the menu must be like. Well, Yebo is turning this notion on its end with a creative pop-up concept.
Situated in Atlanta’s Buckhead neighborhood, Yebo (now known as Yebo Beach Haus) is no stranger to the city’s restaurant scene. Having well established it’s name among locals, this South African + American fusion hotspot is literally changing its spots… in the best way possible.
If you were to walk into Yebo Beach Haus—today, you’d be in for a pleasant surprise. That’s because the restaurant has shed its beachy decor for more lodge-like digs. From late fall through winter, this unique eatery transforms its scenery from surfboards to skis and becomes the Yebo Ski Haus. The decor changes from a coastal hideaway into a cozy winter cabin theme to stay in line with the seasons. A very unique concept that is executed to perfection. With a revamped home at its foundation, the restaurant’s ambiance speaks to a lush vacation getaway, one you won’t mind over staying.
As Yebo Ski Haus, the restaurant’s expansive outdoor patio areas receive seasonal touches. Patio seating is tastefully adorned with warm and inviting blankets and comfy pillows that welcome guests to mingle fireside over festive cocktails. Live pine trees surround the space adding to a truly authentic experience.
Inside, warm woods meet rustic lodge touches that vibe with the “ski haus” theme. Guest will immediately pick up on the winter inspired decor that includes fur throws, skis, antler-incorporated lighting fixtures, and winter-inspired accessories. The interior features three levels, each space offering a uniquely different experience for entertaining guests. The upstairs dining area overlooks the main dining room, giving guests the sense of lounging atop a ski lift. Skis and ski poles decorate the area adding to the ‘lift” vibe.
Guests can also opt for a more secluded setting downstairs where dining by candlelight is the order of the day. A massive banquet-style table sits center room surrounded by drift wood features and candles made with authentic wine bottles. Cellar walls are stocked with wine while others feature whimsical winter-themed art by local artists.
The main dining room and adjacent bar are equally decorated to season with ski lodge motif throughout. Intimately set, the dining room receives similar seasonal treatment with furs over chairs, cozy cushions, and ambient lighting. The bar (which leads out to a second patio and fire pit) presents a more casual setting for sips and socializing, as well, guests can “turn-up” the fun by sharing a “shotski” which is a ski board outfitted with shot glasses.
Known for their eclectic take on South African-American cuisine, Yebo relays the Ski Haus concept to their menu choices which feature creative cuisine in-line with the theme of the moment. Savory selections include a twist on Foie Gras with buttermilk pancakes, blackberry compote and rum whipped cream, and must try’s in the Smoked Trout Pâté and Roasted Beets.
Guests can nosh on a variety of creative and flavorful small bites like Curry Pot Pie, Bobotie, Ostrich Sliders, Scallops, Crispy Brussel Sprouts, and Roasted Beets to name a few. Although Yebo focuses on shareable small plate options, guest can also indulge in a variety of palate pleasing entrees that include Lamb Chops, Farro Rissoto, or Cassoulet an appetizing dish with duck confit, beef boerewors, over white bean stew, and topped with crispy onion.
Featured fare that’s “more fun with friends” is Yebo Ski Haus’ uber popular Fondu with boerewors meatballs, roasted mushrooms, charred cauliflower, and grilled sourdough, that diners will delight in dipping into decadent Belgian beer cheese sauce.
Desserts and after dinner sips receive extra special treatment at the Ski Haus. Try the Smores Brûlée for a unique take on this campfire classic. Or, if simpler sweets are more your craving opt for the whimsical Snowman Gelato that’s almost too cute to eat. Sultry sips to savor: Fall Old Fashion, a tasty favorite with classic ingredients, and a refreshing Southside Royale consisting of gin, sparkling wine, lime, and garnished with a mint leaf.
Snowman GelatoNo matter which season you fancy, one thing remains the same: Yebo has all the ingredients to serve up an unforgettable dining
