Atlanta-born chef Jared Hucks may hail from the city, but he’s spent the last two decades traveling from country to country and working at some of world’s most renowned restaurants. This time spent eating and cooking on five continents is reflected in the menu at his new Chamblee restaurant, The Alden–with a mix of Southern favorites for good measure.
Named after the Old English word for “old friend”–and Hucks’ middle name–The Alden invites its diners in with its warm, bright dining room and open exhibition-style kitchen where each dish takes center stage. The menu revolves around dishes based on locally-sourced fresh and seasonal ingredients that draw upon Southern classics and elements of a range of world cuisines. Standouts include Chard-wrapped Rainbow Trout with kumquat brown butter and rhubarb garnish, Harissa Shrimp & Grits with a Moroccan-inspired chermoula relish, a Lavender-baked Springer Mountain Chicken sweetened with a local honey mustard sauce and the apple cobbler with seasonal quince gelato and walnut praline.
Adventurous (or hungry!) diners should check out the chef’s tasting menu. Available with optional wine pairings, the tasting menu allows diners the option to take a tour of the larger menu’s highlight dishes for a very reasonable $75–and comes with a front-row seat to the kitchen from the chef’s counter.
Hucks’ exposure to world-renowned chefs and cuisines have bolstered a culturally saturated culinary experience with The Alden, resulting in a mixture of bold yet refined dining that is a perfect reflection of Hucks’ culinary background.
